Composite Fillings For Kids

Tooth decay is the most common preventable childhood disease. Even with a good diet and proper dental hygiene, there is still a chance that your child may develop a cavity. A filling from We Care Dental Care will treat minor cavities and prevent them from progressing into a more severe issue, like an infected tooth. During this treatment, the decayed enamel is removed, the tooth is cleaned, and then a composite, tooth-colored filling is placed, restoring the structure and integrity of the tooth.

NuSmile Dental Crowns

If a tooth is chipped or cracked, or if a cavity is left untreated and becomes more severe, Dr. Burkitt may suggest a dental crown. A crown is used to cover the entire chewing surface of your child’s tooth and protect its remaining structure. The process for applying a crown usually takes two appointments. At the first appointment, your child’s tooth is cleaned and numbed, and the damaged material is removed. Images and impressions are taken of the tooth, then sent to our partners at NuSmile, a leading manufacturer of zirconia crowns for children. When NuSmile sends us your child’s custom-made, natural-looking crown, Dr. Burkitt permanently attaches it to your child’s tooth during their second appointment.

Children's tooth extractions

Whether teeth have been broken due to an oral injury or have become infected due to decay, tooth extractions may be required to remove damaged primary (baby) teeth. The process of an extraction usually only takes about 5 minutes per tooth. The process involves numbing the area and possibly sedation if necessary for your child's comfort. The area surrounding your child’s tooth will be cleaned and disinfected, and then Dr. Burkitt will loosen the tooth in the socket. After the tooth is removed, the area is cleaned and sutured shut. A space maintainer may be recommended to keep your child’s mouth and jawbone healthy until their permanent tooth grows in.
